Educational Development Plans (EDP's)

An Educational Development Plan is part of the Career Preparation Program.  Beginning with the class of 2005-2006, all freshman must have an EDP.  An EDP is a written document in which student identify career goals, list interests and skills in line with meeting those goals, and document the experiences, education, and accomplishments they want to purse to successfully attain them.

Throughout their high school career, students will be required to update the EDP on an annual basis.  It is expected that as students mature and have exposure to more courses and employment opportunities their choices of career paths may vary.  Students are now able to complete and update their EDP anywhere via the internet.  It is a very confidential and secure system that utilizes student ID and password access.  Students are not asked to enter personal information, such as social security numbers and birth dates.

To assist your child with EDP process:

*  Talk to your children about their likes, dislikes and school preferences

*  Help them to assess their strengths and weaknesses

*  Note hobbies and outside interests

*  Check with your school to learn career related classes, activities, and services are provided

*  Sign a paper copy of your child's EDP

*  Encourage work based learning opportunities, such as job shadowing, or cooperative education
