Bendle Public Schools is a proud recipient of a Healthy Meals Incentives Recognition Award for Innovation in Nutrition Education.  The award is part of the $150,000 Healthy Meals Initiative grant the district received from the USDA in partnership with Action for Healthy Kids to purchase new equipment for the school kitchens and provide programs for students with a nutrition focus.

All the award recipients from around the country gathered at a Fall Summit in Las Vegas to share their success stories.  Bendle Public Schools was recognized for providing nutrition education to students during the school day and through afterschool programs.  Bendle teachers were trained on the Michigan Model for Comprehensive Health to deliver age-appropriate classroom lessons based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The Bendle Beyond afterschool program offers a Cooking Club and Gardening Club that teaches students about gardening and the preparation of healthy foods.  Congratulations to all the Bendle staff that have participated in this initiative!

Bendle staff received the HMI Innovation in Nutrition Education award.  L to R: Shelly Swann- BHS Kitchen Manager, Dawn Pully-Food Service Director, and Lori Hackett-BHS Bendle Beyond Site Coordinator.
